Wig Cap Size Guide
A wig that fits well looks more natural and feels comfortable all day. Most wigs come in an Average cap, and many styles are also made in Petite or Large. Here's how to find yours.
How to measure your head
- Use a soft, flexible measuring tape. If you only have a string, measure the string against a ruler afterward.
- Start at your front hairline, in the middle of your forehead.
- Run the tape just behind the top of one ear, down around the nape of your neck where your hairline ends, behind the other ear, and back to the start.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight. Write down the number in inches.
If you wear a wig cap or have thick natural hair under your wig, measure the way you'll actually wear it.
Which cap size fits?
| Cap size | Head circumference |
|---|---|
| Petite | About 20.5" to 21.25" |
| Average | About 21.5" to 22.5" |
| Large | About 22.75" to 23.5" |
Sizes vary a little from brand to brand, so treat these as a guide. Most caps also have adjustable straps or tabs at the nape that let you tighten or loosen the fit by about half an inch.
In between sizes?
If you're right on the line, the adjustable tabs usually let you go with the smaller size for a more secure fit. When in doubt, we're happy to help: Help Me Choose, call (760) 779-8520, or email wigvana@gmail.com.
